About Geo Supplies

Geo Supplies Ltd was founded in 1984 after Company Chairman Chris Darmon decided to quit school teaching to concentrate on what had, for the previous 5 years, been a part time occupation. For the past 30 years fellow graduate geologist Len Sims has joined Chris at the helm.

From the earliest days, Geo Supplies has combined the supply of geological goods worldwide with the local supply of stationery and print services. Today, we have a shop in the Chapeltown area of Sheffield.

We never forget that it's people that make things happen. So whether we serve you face-to-face, on the phone or online we'll be on hand to offer you our best help and advice. All our team are dedicated to making your customer experience the very best that it can be.

As you will see we offer a vast range of products to suit the needs of everyone from the amateur to the student and the professional consultant or company geologist.  We tailor our prices and services to suit you, our customer, so please contact us directly with your needs: large or small, anywhere in the world.

Meet the Team

As a team we represent many years experience and knowledge of geology and the relevant equipment. Our print and stationery divisions are similarly resourced with extensive product knowledge. We are much more than retailers, we add the value of our knowledge of our products and how they are used.

Chris Darmon BSc. PGCE is our Company Chairman. He’s a geologist and highly experienced earth science educator with over 40 years experience. Following 8 years of school teaching Chris spent over 25 years teaching mature students at Sheffield University and for the Workers’ Education Association. Today he is in charge of our Learning Zone where he leads field trips and teaches both online and face-to- face classes. Outside work, Chris was until recently Chairman of YHA (England & Wales). Now he spends what spare time he has travelling.

Len Sims BSc. is our Company Secretary. He’s a geologist with vast experience of solving the supply needs of our customers built up over the past 30 years. Len is the person most likely to be dealing with your export enquiry, sourcing the goods and preparing the quotation, right through to arranging the delivery to you. If things go wrong, as occasionally they do, you’ll find him quick to act to put things right. Outside his work, Len is a dedicated family man enjoying time in the countryside with his extremely active son.

Colin Schofield BSc.PGCE is our Learning and Education Manager. He joined us full time in January 2017, after working with Chris Darmon for more than 10 years on the residential and day field trip courses, where he brings to bear his knowledge and enthusiasm for both geology and geomorphology. He is also an excellent driver of our hired minibuses. He also takes on the role of course manager on our distance learning programme, where he encourages learners to post comments on Moodle.

Dan Randerson is in charge of our website and online store. He joined us in 2012 after studying A-level geology. He’ll be your first point of contact if you order from our online store. You’ll find him helpful and reliable in everything that he does. Dan also fronts our Chapeltown shop where he is a wizard with your print and stationery requirements. He'll very often be your first port of call as you come through the door!
