Single Specimen of Red Chalk

Single Specimen of Red Chalk

Single specimen of red chalk. Remember all our prices include VAT & carriage within the UK.

Red Chalk is a type of sedimentary rock that is composed primarily of microscopic fragments of calcium carbonate, known as coccoliths. It has a distinctive red color and a fine-grained texture, and often contains fossilized remains of marine organisms such as shells and ammonites.

It forms as a result of the accumulation of coccoliths in a deep marine environment, where the lack of oxygen prevents the growth of other organisms that would disturb the coccolith deposits.
