This is a revamped fourth edition of David Rotherys popular Teach Yourself book that has been a standard for many looking for an introductory geology book. This time around there are many more illustrations, as well as an 8-page section of colour pictures. With over 330 pages the first comment is that this book represents amazing value. Add in the informal writing style and knowledge of the author and you have a first class book that can be handed to a geological beginner of any age from around 14 years old. I was immediately drawn to the new style of introduction, one termed only got a minute? and the other only got 10 minutes? - a really novel way to introduce a new subject to somebody! This sets the tone for the rest of the book with David being more a tutor and guide than a traditional author. Another new feature of this fourth edition is the use of frequent insight boxes - snappy little facts, some of very quite amusing, take this one on scale bars in the field: As a rough guide, most adults are 1.6-1.8 m tall, so if can persuade somebody to stand against your exposure, you can very easily mark a scale-bar on your sketch. What we have here is a really solid introduction to all the key aspects of geology, presented in a relaxed and informal way, with just the right amount of terminology and a petty decent glossary. For those who wish to take their study further theres a good listing of useful websites. Great value, do update your earlier edition to this one! Remember our price includes postage and packing so there is nothing else to pay!!
