The stories behind historic geological hammers in the collection of the Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge. A good read and an ideal present.

The author Douglas Palmer has been able to 'mine' a rich seam of stories and anecdotes from the historic collection of geological hammers at the Sedgwick Museum in Cambridge, including the hammer of Adam Sedgwick himself. Other famous geologists' hammers featured include those belonging to William Buckland, Charles Lyell and even Mary Anning.

This is a book about the geological hammer and it's evolution over time. It also recognises that the humble hammer is a strong signal of a profession including their depictions across the world.
