Mylonite is a type of metamorphic rock that is derived from the intense deformation and shearing of pre-existing rocks. It has a distinctive banded appearance and a fine-grained texture, and often contains evidence of intense plastic deformation, such as recrystallization and flow structures.

It forms as a result of tectonic forces, such as during mountain-building processes, where rocks are subjected to high pressures and temperatures over extended periods of time. It is commonly found in regions with high geological activity, such as near fault zones or mountain ranges.

Mylonite has a variety of uses, including as a decorative stone, in the production of certain types of ceramics, and as a source of certain minerals such as quartz.
