The Gower Peninsula was the first area in Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Lying between Swansea and Carmarthen Bays, the Gower's southern coastline includes magnificent limestone cliffs interspersed with sandy bays. The book covers this area in three sections: Mumbles to Langland Bay; Pwlldu Head to Threecliff Bay; and Oxwich Point to Rhossili. Details of interest include raised beaches, fossiliferous caves and their associated glacial and solifluction deposits. The northern side of the peninsula consists almost entirely of extensive marshes built on alluvial silts.
